Two Belly’s gets five stars

Great prices, fantastic flavor!

If finger-licking, mouth-watering, southern-style BBQ, not too hot, not too cold, but just right, is what your taste buds are tingling for, then look no farther than Two Belly’s BBQ!

Only a few weeks into business and this cozy taste of home has already had so many customers, they have sold out of their delicious main dishes on more than one occasion. One look at the menu and one does not have to wonder why.

Not only are the prices right, but so are the service, speed, and flavors of this little up and comer.

As soon as one walks into Two Belly’s, they find a cozy, comfortable feel. The staff is down-to-earth, friendly, and eager to share tips for those who are new to the BBQ dining experience. Nearly everything on the menu is made from scratch; this is apparent by the freshness and full-flavor experience of each succulent bite.

The trio of owners, Jami Preston, 32, Todd Bender, 37, and Matt Fox 37, all agree that when you come to Two Belly’s BBQ they want you to savor the perfection they strive for each day. Bender admits the task is daunting, and asks patience as they go through the normal growing pains of any new business, especially the “mom and pop” atmosphere you get at Two Belly’s.

The two superstars of the menu are, without a doubt, the brisket and the ribs. In fact, Mark Tocco, 44, Port Huron resident and satisfied customer said, “The ribs are excellent! They are good with or without the sauce.” Tocco’s stamp of approval: “The ribs are to die for!”

Cheryl Keany, owner of Buff Bodies gym in Marysville, said, “I love the sauces. The sweet and spicy is the best.” Keany also commented, “The coleslaw is really good, I don’t normally care for coleslaw, but this is so fresh.” Keany enjoys the pulled chicken sandwich, which according to Bender, is the leanest meat on the menu.

Whether it’s a burger, a hot dog, or a nice tasty slab of ribs you want, Two Belly’s has a thorough list of options to choose from; appetizers, sides, soups, salads and more. The four homemade sauces are at each table to test and enjoy.

If eating in is not an option, there is carryout available with a ready time of about 15 minutes. The owners also have an outfitted catering wagon in the works.

Other perks of Two Belly’s, a 10 percent discount every day for Veterans (must have ID), as well as a 10 percent discount for anyone who brings in a bumper sticker for the smoke shed, “It has to be a good one!” Preston smiled.

Two Belly’s is open Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (subject to change). They are located at 706 Lapeer Avenue (the corner of 7th and Lapeer) in Port Huron. Their number is 810-966-0025. You can also find and like them on Facebook.
