The Water Warriors-Mackinaw Riders and Voyager restaurant of Saint Clair are hosting an inaugural Polar Plunge Feb. 24at the St. Clair boat harbor in St. Clair.
The event kicks off with a parade of costumes followed by the plunge at 2 p.m.
Jim Adams, director of special programs at SOMI (Special Olympics of Michigan), explained this plunge is one of 28 events held throughout the state.
According to Adams, proceeds from this event will go towards supporting Michigan’s Special Olympics programs.
Adams said funds raised provide opportunities for their athletes to compete for free in 27 sports activities at the Special Olympics.
“Every person wants to be part of a team. Our athletes not only build self-esteem, they find a sense of community and a chance to belong,” said Adams.
