A comic for a rainy day

I’m usually wary of rock stars trying to do anything but music, because for every “Rob Zombies Halloween” there is a “Purple Rain.”

That’s what kept me from checking out “Umbrella Academy” for so long. You see “Umbrella Academy” is the brain child of My Chemical Romance singer, Gerard Way, and artist Gabriel Ba.

It’s a comic about a dysfunctional family of adopted superheroes putting up with each other long enough to save the world. The books have some interesting original characters such as Spaceboy, a superman like hero till he loses his body in an accident in space and has his head transplanted on to a mutant gorilla.

The world Way and Ba have created is also very unique. Filled with detective chimpanzees and space squids.

It’s also far from an all ages book. It contains a lot of blood and guts, and some cursing. So if you are not off put by violence in your comics, I recommend you give it a shot.

There are two print trades out covering both archs of the comic so far. They are also available through single issues and ITunes as digital comics, but I recommend the trades because of the extra comics and art after the main story.

Now go read some comics!
