Achieving together

Free tutoring for any student! That’s right, free!

SC4 offers tutoring at the Achievement Center in room B-100 in the college center.

But what makes the Achievement Center different from other schools’ programs is professors. Yes! Professors!

Professors at this school have to do college service hours. To earn those hours they are allowed to tutor in the Achievement Center.

This semester there are four professors tutoring. They are Allen Meno, Nick Goins, Mike Belleman and Bob Moldenhauer.

Allen Meno is a professor of psychology. He tutors all psychology and sociology classes. Meno

likes when students come in, even just to talk about careers in psychology. He is available for tutoring on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Nick Goins is a professor of math, and tutors all math classes. He sees many students struggle with math. “Math is a subject that takes time to absorb,” Goins said. “Do a little bit each day.” He is available for tutoring on Tuesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Mike Belleman holds a lecture position in economics. He tutors all accounting, business and economic classes. Belleman brings his work experience to his classroom. Belleman said, “I didn’t walk out of college and into a teaching position. I did my time. So I know what is required in certain areas.” He is available for tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Biology professor Bob Moldenhauer is available for tutoring on Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. He tutors biology 100, 160, 171,172 and 205.

The professors have office hours as well.

An overall theme that the professors said they see is they do not have many students at the beginning of the semester, but as the semester goes on they help more and more students. They said students should come in and see them, as soon they do not understand something; so the student can work it out.

They advise students to not be afraid of seeing them. It is better to get help than not to know the material and do badly on tests and assignments.

Beside professors being available for tutoring, other tutors are available for different times and days for all subjects.
