It’s time to pick out a costume, Halloween fanatics

It can be a tough decision.  There are so many choices and every year always brings a new “it” costume.

One might wonder where the tradition of wearing a costume came from.  According to History.com, “The tradition of dressing in costume for Halloween has both European and Celtic roots. On Halloween, when it was believed that ghosts came back to the earthly world, people thought that they would encounter ghosts if they left their homes. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits. In the second half of the nineteenth century, America was flooded with new immigrants. These new immigrants, especially the millions of Irish…, helped to popularize the celebration of Halloween nationally. Taking from Irish and English traditions, Americans began to dress up in costumes and go house to house asking for food or money, a practice that eventually became today’s “trick-or-treat” tradition.”

Some of the more popular costumes this year for adults are the Alice, Mad Hatter and Evil Rabbit costumes from the movie “Alice in Wonderland.” The “Iron Man” costume is popular as well. Josh Faulk, 19 of Carsonville said, “There are lots of vampire costumes because of “True Blood” and “Twlight.” And as always the “sexy” costumes are a hit.

But being popular always comes with a price. These costumes start off atleast $40 and go up from there.

If there is a not big budget to spend on new costumes, don’t fred.  One can buy lots of small accessories to make any costume to work, from police badges to wigs.

Makeup is another budget-friendly alternative to an expensive costume. Step out of the box.  Check out flickr and youtube.com. Type Halloween makeup in the search and get great ideas for transforming into a different person.

There are always second hand stores to find cheap clothes and turn them into a fabulous costume. For example buy on old bridemaid’s dress and a can of aquanet and suddenly a, 80’s bridemaid is reborn.

Whatever the decision is, have fun making it.
